Survivor Season 19, Episode 4
"Hungry For A Win"
Russell Hantz starts the episode by speaking with Jaison Robinson about the hope of winning. Then he reverts to form and speaks to the camera about eliminating Jaison because he is getting on his nerves. According to Russell, "I have it all under my thumb right now". Welcome to Survivor 19, Episode 4.
Shambo (a.k.a. Shannon Waters) is back home at Galu tribe and lamenting how she would much prefer to be back at Foa Foa. Apparently Foa Foa treated her really well and she despises the fact that team Galu likes to spend too much time luxuriating on the beach. [Of COURSE the producers followed that with shots of the Galu girls lounging on the beach. :-)]
Eric Cardona starts "working" Shambo to get more information about the immunity clue which he hopes to combine with information from Yasmin Giles's clue. This gets interrupted by John Fincher who has the same idea. Shambo shares the information with both men and asks them to promise to vote for her if it ever comes down to that. Shambo leaves the men to take it from there in hopes that her honesty with them pays off in the long run.
The Food Challenge:
Tree mail arrives and summons the chief of the tribe plus one male and one female. It states "the chief must choose two, to join him on a quest. To go on a special mission, which could turn out for the best. When the chief comes home, the tribe might have more to eat. You won't know why, until the mission is complete."
Mick Trimming, the leader of Foa Foa, chooses Russell H. who is good at strategizing and Natalie who is good with puzzles. Russell Swan, the leader of Galu, chooses Shambo and Dave because he needs some brains and firepower. When they arrive at the challenge circle, host Jeff P. is missing, so both teams decide to just jump in "without even asking". Seems like a good idea. Russell H. makes the first move but team Galu is a little quicker. Ultimately it doesn't make a difference because after reading the instructions they have to put the reward back (which is three chickens) until the challenge is complete. Basically the challenge turns out to be a variation of the game of bocce ball (which is kind of like horseshoes only with balls that can knock each other out of the way). The order is Chiefs first, ladies second, gentlemen last. Foa Foa leads this challenge all the way to the very last toss -- 17 balls down, one to go... and Dave comes in with a picture-perfect toss that steals the game from Foa Foa. The editing on this sequence was superb. Mick Trimming was totally demoralized, but keep his sense of humor when chatting with the camera.
Meanwhile, back at Galu, Eric implements his plan to find the immunity idol. First he sends Laura and Monica Padilla out on fruit patrol while the rest of his tribe is either sleeping or (as is the case with Yasmin) decides to go to sleep. He implements his search through the trees... and proves successful in his quest. So off he goes to hide it and implement his plan to not tell anyone that he has it. Upon returning, Dave implements his strategy to keep it low-key by not celebrating the fact that he single-handedly won the chicken challenge.
Russell H. continues his thought process on eliminating Jaison Robinson and switching his allegiance toward the top two to Natalie who apparently "rides his coattails like a horse." Oh yeah, and "she's too stupid to do it by herself." Meanwhile, Natalie poses (spotlessly; as if having just got out of the shower) in her gold and pink bikini and fills us in on her strategy to let the others "think" she is an easy target -- allowing her to outmaneuver them at the very end. Stay tuned for the continuation of Russell versus Natalie.
Sure enough, a chicken escapes. Dave runs commentary while Shambo and Eric attempt to catch the escaped chicken. I have no idea how this tribe continues to win challenges, because this is too funny. Meanwhile, it's Kelly versus Yasmin Giles based on the fact that Kelly works and Yasmin sleeps.
The Immunity Challenge:
Carry some blocks across a rope net and stack them. Climb across a rope bridge. Find some more blocks and stack them. First tribe to complete both stacks of blocks wins. Galu needs to sit out four people for this challenge and they are: Shambo, Laura, Dave and Russell S. Galu completes the first stack of blocks first. Galu takes a big lead across the rope bridge. Monica Padilla loses Galu the lead. Russell H. helps Foa Foa to keep it neck and neck. Galu starts the second stack first. It is down to Natalie versus Kelly as Kelly attempts to stack three blocks while Natalie attempts to stack her final one. Kelly wobbles and drops two of her blocks. Natalie remains stable and Foa Foa finally wins an immunity challenge.
Strategy Sessions:
Russell S. versus Monica: Russell was not impressed with Monica's performance and pretty much believes she "went away" mentally and cost Galu the challenge. Eric versus Monica: Eric siding with Russell on this one. Dave versus Shannon Waters. Monica versus Yasmin. Shannon confers with Yasmin who shares with us that her "doing nothing" is part of her strategy to not put a target on her back by standing out. Dave versus Yasmin. John supports Monica. Eric supports Yasmin. Kelly climbs on the fence. Russell Swan walks around in the background instead of taking on leadership and then complains that the "friends of Monica" have swayed the vote toward the elimination of Yasmin. This ticks off Russell who states that if they don't follow their leader there will be hell to pay. Apparently, he got a press release with his name on it and believed what he was reading.
Tribal Council:
Brett Clouser versus Yasmin: Brett singles her out for not doing enough around the tribe but Yasmin's rebuttal is all he had to do was ask and she would've upped her contribution to surpass her current "I've done every
