ANTM Cycle 13, Episode 7
"Petite Ninja Warriors"
Who said, "thank God you are doing this with your neck in this picture because you didn't do a damn thing with your film"?
And so we start Episode 7 of America's Next Top Model with Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole reminiscing on Tyra's words to her at the judging panel last week. Nicole vows to let the judges see more of her personality. Next up is a little fun play where Rae gets to impersonate Laura as she auditions for the "America's next top model the musical" stage show which Erin is planning to produce.
Tyra Mail:
Tyra mail arrives with the message "How driven are you? We'll find out tomorrow." Knows what that means and we have to wait until tomorrow it's time for an impromptu pajama party where the girls strategize to "vote Nicole off of the island". Not seen the girls get catty in the past but this quote is an all-time winner: "she has the social graces of a fetus.": Kara versus Nicole. Erin versus Nicole. Sundai versus Nicole. According to Rai, "it is not a lack of social skills, it is a complete lack of a soul". Yep, she said that. Rai versus Nicole. One would think that the mommy of the bunch would have a little more social skills of her own. Just saying.
The Challenge:
The first-round arrives and the ladies return to Wilhelmina Modeling Agency where president Sean Patterson tells them that they will be going on their round of go-sees with potential employers within the industry. The girls are divided into teams of two, given cars and old-fashioned paper maps: Sundai is the first to admit that she does not know how to read a map "at all". The girls must hit all five agencies in any order and must return to Wilhelmina by 4 PM. The teams are Jennifer and Erin, Britany and Kara, Sundai and Rae, Nicole and Laura.
The first stop for Kara, Brittany, Sundai and Rae is Neil Lane jewelry. Kara does not have pierced ears; "a real no-no in the fashion industry". Mr. Lane states that he "would not book her for a photo shoot". Mr. Lane found Brittany to be very glamorous and would "definitely use her for a campaign". Sundai was not booked for the campaign due to her lack of comfort with the jewelry while wearing the one half million dollar necklace around her neck. Mr. Lane was also not sure that Rae "could carry it off on the runway the way [he] would want want."
The first stop for Jennifer and Erin was at Rozae Nichols (fashion designer). Erin was regulated to book work due to lack of confidence [for runway]. Jennifer's beauty seemed to be eclipsed by too much makeup and Ms. Nichols felt she "would not book her for a campaign". Laura was "really cute and edgy". Nicole was really beautiful and Ms. Nichols "would book her for collections".
Nicole and Laura make their first stop at Wong Doody advertising agency, where they are booking for an on air promotion for a Hollywood TV show, so the girls need to read a script. Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole makes a positive impression and would get the booking while Laura attempts "hood-rat" as an alternate accent with interesting but not quite compelling results. Britney gives a "robotic" British accent. Kara also attempts British and is critiqued for having greasy hair; ouch. Rae goes for "Minnesotan"; uh - yeah. Sundai is asked to act "shy", and is handed the "limited in what she can offer us; it would have to be a very specific job" card.
Jennifer and Erin arrived first at Trina Turk (fashion designer) as their second stop where Ms. Turk is casting for a photo shoot as opposed t"o a runway show. Both girls left a good impression, while Sundai and Rae got lost and stuck in traffic. Kara comes off a little scruffy and needs to clean up her act a little bit". Despite being extremely pressed for time, Sundai and Rae risked it all on a third go see which turned out fantastic for both of them; but will they make it back in time? Meanwhile, Jennifer finds the legend and makes it back with one minute to spare in the six girls in the office count down the final seconds as Sundai and Rae don't make it back in time.
Feedback And Prize Money:
Rae and Sundai get a chance to explain why they were late, but Rae kind of drops the ball on that one. Both ladies are dismissed out of the room and Sundai confesses "total embarrassment". Ouch; I thought they would get away with it, but alas, not. Jennifer gets pinged on too much eye makeup. Laura has a cute and fresh look but showed little range in her commercial [audition]. Brittany was gorgeous on camera but kind of robotic. Kara has a very strong walk but was a little too scruffy. Kara is justifiably taken aback by the reference to scruffy which she associates "with the look of dogs on the street." Aaron has a very good walk but it's a little too timid. Nicole has a perfectly sculpted face but lacks energy in front of the camera. And Nicole wins a piece from each of the designers visited that day, diamond earrings from Neil Lane jewelry, and casting in the to be nationally televised commercial. OMG: Congratulations, Nicole!
Let the player hating ensue: Sundai versus Nicole. Kara versus Nicole. On the other hand, Laura was very supportive of Nicole, and helped her dress during the fashion show the girls through for her to try on her new designer dresses. And again, Kara versus Nicole with the following quotes: "I'm going to channel this anger and kicker ass", "my inspiration? Nicole. I hate her." Somehow, I don't think Kara likes Nicole.
Tyra Mail:
The next round of Tyra mail arrives: "Float like a butterfly, pose like me. The competition's getting so fierce... y'all could use a secret weapon." And the term "secret weapon" throws the girls into a frenzy about Victoria's Secret. Oh, how wrong they are. Which makes me ponder: what is it with Tyra and her seeing herself as a superhero?
