 Make me tall?
Yeah, right; at the same time, we might as well make you beautiful. Oh, wait - you are beautiful.
This week the 11 remaining models participate in their first runway show for designer Kevin Hall. Petite supermodel Jaime Rishar is the guest judge. As always, we start with a recap which sadly reminds us that last week we had to watch Super Smize. The recap reassures me that the episode was as bad as I remember. It also reminds me that we have so far lost Lisa, Rachel and Courtney. But, we still have Bianca.
22-year-old Ashley begins the episode by sharing her chagrin at being in the bottom three. This quickly transitions into shock that Bianca is still with us and gives a few of the other girls a chance to weigh in on how annoying Bianca is. Cat alerts: Ashley versus Bianca. Bianca versus Jennifer. Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole versus Ashley. Nicole versus Lulu (she called her a "ridiculous little sidekick along for the ride and delusional"). Apparently Nicole has a [hidden] crush on Bianca.
The girls head over to the Conga Room where the red carpet is laid out. Ms. J. introduces the girls to Diva Devonna, a nine-year-old super supermodel that has graced over 200 runways since she was four years old. Talk about exploiting your child from the very beginning. Nonetheless, little miss Devonna was strikingly cute. 21-year-old Brittany was all blah blah blah about her mathematician-ism and how she needed to bring out her sexy side.
Miss J. gives the girls some runway tips: first Rae, then Jennifer, Nicole who's back was too arched, Sundai who was bored to death, Lulu who was too scrunched and shy. Britney delivered on her sexiness, Erin walked as if her right leg was not hers, Kara's problem was her chin, Bianca was a bit too controlled as she attempted to "step her game up". Ashley needed to bring some sexiness in with her dance training (but her hair was fierce), and 19-year-old Laura gave a little too much extra. And then the girls walked in tandem. Sundai dropped some rumors on Bianca, specifically that Courtney was talking about her behind her back before she left, so Bianca goes on the defensive. Sundai versus Courtney. Courtney versus Bianca. More Ashley versus Bianca (mostly from Ashley). Bianca shuts down.
Britney treats us to some runway practice in her underwear: Guy Alert: yes, she can do that more often. The girls meet for a photo shoot where they meet Kevin Hall and have to pose with models of 5'10" and above. Lulu can't resist bringing out the cattiness during lunch: bing! Lulu versus Bianca.
First up in the Short Girls versus the Giants runway war is Sundai: she holds her own. Ashley feels confident, Brittany looks awesome (I need a copy of THAT dress for myself). Lulu's energy is really low, Kara, Ray, Bianca, Jennifer, Nicole, 18-year-old Aaron reminisces about not graduating from high school yet, and finally Laura, who improves upon her "frozen food aisle as a runway" practice sessions. In the post analysis, Bianca gets warned not to be too dumpy. Ray received praise. Britney impressed. Lulu was called on having low charisma. Ashley was complimented on her wiggle and critiqued on her wiggle (yes, both). And the winner was... Brittany. She won a 17 magazine prom dress spread and chose Kara and Laura to be in the shoot with her. At the photo shoot Britney's hair was not awesome in Kara's face was way too big (for me).
Violin Alert: Bianca moves us through her back story including sensitivity, abuse, God and vulnerability. Afterwards: Ashley versus Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole. Nicole versus Lulu.
The girls attend their next photo shoot where Tyra-mail warns them that "objects in mirror may be shorter than they appear". Hence the girls are challenged to elongate themselves while posing in a quasi-isolated warehouse. Photo shoot creative director Jay Manuel introduces the girls to their new photographer, Jonathan Mannion who shot one of Tyra's very first Comp cards.
Brittany gets to go first and over works her dress. Then Kara who works the ropes in purple. Laura brings the green with a little extra height added to her hair. Lulu brings her worst shoot while dressed in black. Jennifer in a flamingo-esque black-and-white (quite lovely). Nicole brings an extra 3 inches in gray satin and red high heels. Ashley attempts to bring relaxation while wearing black. Sunday seemed happy to pout also in black. Ray managed to get interesting with the props in purple. Erin was disgustingly gorgeous in black with electric blue pumps. Bianca brings the body but can't manage to bring the face (Jay's words, not mine - but he helps her work through it). Back at the mansion Lulu goes on an overdrive through Catville: Lulu versus Brittany. But don't worry, it's all good because Lulu has an "honest eye". (Yes, she said that herself.)
And now it is time to review the photos with Guest panelist 5'6" Petit supermodel Jaime Rishar, who, Tyra informs us was also "the first model to be on the cover of Italian Vogue back to back". All judges love Erin's photo. Bianca gets compliments on looking beautiful and soft. Challenge winner Brittany only manages to look 5 foot 5 1/2 inches tall. Sundai manages to look relaxed in the photo is critiqued by J. Alexander to bring that confidence to the runway. Laura looked a little boxed in. No one could find it "eye thing" to complain about in Jennifer's for. Nicole looked 5'13" tall. Lulu was blasted for just being blah. Kara looked dynamic with a long neck and got the "best so far" compliment. Ray seemed to be laying down on the job. Ashley was "smizing" with only one eye. And Tyra will let them know who gets cut after the break...
The first model to receive her photo is Kara, Nicole, Erin, Sundai, Jennifer, Bianca, Laura, Ashley (who gets a "congratulations") and Rae. And now it's Lulu versus Brittany in the way that matters to them most.
