America's Next Top Model Cycle 13, Episode 8 - "Interview 101"
Jessica.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Jessica Lowndes helps sharpen the models interviewing skills while on the set of The Insider. Later, the ladies must write their own scripts for a cosmetics commercial. Kim Kardashian is a guest judge.
Who said?
"Rae, I am so proud of you, like, for not talking about, like, 'I miss my daughter'..." -- and thus starts episode 8 of America's Next Top Model Cycle 13 revealing a little more insight into the personalities of the girls. Rae vows to "put herself out there more, show more personality and stand out from the crowd of girls". Erin grudgingly admits that "Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole does take a great photo" but accuses her of "not having a personality that everyone can relate to; she is socially inept. But I know that *I* have a personality that most girls can relate to." And the first catfight goes to: Erin -vs- Nicole.
The girls then go on to break the ice with a Nicole suggested hair tossing competition. Erin, Rae and Nicole compete while being judged by Jennifer. Best head banger is Nicole; but best hair spinner goes to Erin. Rea expresses that "Nicole is coming out of her shell and it's nice to get to know her. There is kind of this awkward cool side to her and I love it".
Tyra mail arrives with the message "You think you know this competition inside and out? We'll see. Love, Tyra". Laura reads us the mail and then confesses that she is extremely dyslexic: for her black-and-white letters actually squiggly across the page and that her memory is a complete piece of crap which cannot be relied upon. Seems a little overhyped considering she's made it this far in life, but, who knows? Maybe looks ARE everything.
Reward Challenge:
The girls arrive at "The Insider" at CBS Studios and meet host Lara Spencer and celebrity personality Ant. The challenge will be to interview a celebrity and think on your feet while doing so (so ultimately the Teleprompter conks out, with the girls have to wing it). Ant helps each girl practice before the actual challenge. When Ant tells Nicole that her hair reminds him of Shirley Hemphill who died in 1987, the silence, the look on Nicole's face and the cricket sound effects are the funniest thing since Nicole's absolute silence when she was selected into the America's Next Top Model Cycle 13 top 14.
Feedback And Prize Money:
The girls are observed by Ann Shoket, the editor-in-chief of Seventeen magazine, which is one of America's Next Top Model's main prizes and sponsers. The prize is a multipage spread. The challenge winner is Erin, who is engaging and quick witted. The funniest moment is when Nicole asks 90210 star Jessica Lowndes "Have you ever had kids herself?". NOT cool. Laura's dyslexia trips her up when the Teleprompter starts spewing garbage (as it does for each of the girls). Rae is identified as forgettable and encouraged to stand out from the crowd. Erin is mistakenly identified as charming. Offscreen, Sundai corrects that "Erin is not charming; Erin is obnoxious." which she states in her own excessively bubbly way. Sundai -vs- Erin. Erin chooses friends Jennifer and Rae to company her on the photo shoot which will run in the January/February issue of Seventeen.
Tyra Mail 2:
"Tomorrow you will be filming your first Covergirl commercial we have sent over these kits to assist you as you will be writing your own scripts. Each script must be 25 seconds in length. Each script must end with 'Exact Eyelights Collection from easy, breezy, beautiful Covergirl'". Erin finishes first which annoys Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole [Nicole -vs- Erin]. Laura worries about her dyslexia. Nicole works deep into the night.
Elimination Challenge:
Photo shoot creative director Jay Manuel is joined by America's Next Top Model Cycle 12 winner, Teyona Anderson who gives the girls some pics. Next they are joined by America's Next Top Model panel judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker for this challenge. Jay will coach the girls during prep and (Director) Nigel Barker will direct the girls during the actual video shoot.
Nicole made progress. Sunday was disappointing; kind of amateur. Erin was feeling pretty confident. Jennifer was flawless. Laura got the first lines down but after that became a dyslexic disaster; however her personality and she got positive or views for the shoot. Britney nude aligns the best but presented them far too robotically. Rae looked beautiful but didn't bring out her inner Rae. And then came Erin. Erin couldn't even get out the first line. She needed to have her makeup redone four times. Nigel stepped in to try to help but her brain had already shut down. Ultimately, Erin even sniffled after the delivery of her final line - a complete emotional breakdown. So much for finishing first; Erin's underestimation of the difficulty of the challenge was a highlight of Sundai's Day: [Sundai -vs-Erin again].
Panel and Deliberations:
Having run out of Petite supermodels, Tyra has Kim Kardashian stand in as a guest judge. Kim's credits include being a Reality TV star and having used some of her money to co-open a Boutique.
Kim found Jennifer to be very natural. Laura over shared on her dyslexia issues. Kim thought Brittany was too scripted. Kim appreciated Nicole's geek chic fashion sense and her personality worked for the entire panel. Rae got critiques across the board. Sundai was teased for being too much of a saleswoman and not enough of a soft, easy, breezy Covergirl. Erin continued her crying streak -- and her take was even worse than I remembered. She seemed to break down every two words. It was not easy and breezy by any means.
The deliberations pretty much followed what was stated above. The judges had some fun joking about Sundai and Brittany's personalities on film.
