America's Next Top Model Cycle 13, Episode 11
"Hawaiian Hip-Hop"
Who said?
"I think that Erin has a great look, but she does not have the mentality for this; her self-esteem is tied in with what other people think of her a little too much which is a dangerous thing with modeling". Ready? That would be Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole -vs.- Erin: but in a positive way.
At this point, I've got to say that after last week I am thoroughly exhausted with America's Next Top Model. The judging decisions make absolutely no sense to me more often than they do. With that being said really keep this review really, really short; until I can get my love of the show back.
Nicole sees herself and Jennifer in the final two. Jennifer never expected to get the wall picture, so she is totally thrilled.
Tyra Mail 1:
"Let's not skirt the issue - this competition is getting fierce! Love, Tyra." So the girls are thinking "Hula".
Reward Challenge:
the girls arrive at a beach with old girls wearing white bikinis and sarongs. And the girls went off to sarongs and start Krumping. The ladies meet Anna-Rita Sloss a hip-hop Hula instructor who introduces them to this new interpretation of the traditional hula dance. After learning some basic Hula moves, the girls must go off and choreograph their own routines and in America's Next Top Model tradition, tell a story with their bodies. Basic Hula moves include love, strength, fear, determination, sadness.
Erin decides to share her cheerleading background and help the girls work on their choreography. Nicole versus Erin: Michael finds Erin to be in knowing after a lot. Aaron versus Nicole: Erin can't get over the idea that Nicole is just too awkward to exist on this planet. Laura versus pessimism: Laura decides what she doesn't know she is going to fake it in basic modeling tradition. Jennifer under the radar.
Feedback And Prize Money:
Runway trainer extraordinaire J. Alexander is on hand to review the ladie's routines. Since they are all lined up in their bikinis we might as well rate their bodies using a waist-to-hip ratio as the foundation. Nicole wins followed by Jennifer followed by Erin followed by Laura. Plus Nichols me on green bikini works great with her red hair. The girl who wins this challenge gets to come back to Maui with a friend for a five-day all expense paid trip in staying at the Four Seasons.
Jennifer story is about love determination and happiness. Jennifer had difficulty with a portion but had good flow during the whole wine portions. Aaron's intro was flawless; her story was about her being sad and lonely and scared as a child through adolescence and becoming stronger and happy. Unfortunately J. Alexander saw anger not sadness.
Jennifer speculated that Laura could get pretty freaky at the club because "she's got big hits as you knows how to move them". Laura's story wasn't coming from a place where big dreams are not part of the reality and proving that you can live those dreams through determination. J. Alexander felt that "Laura came with the booty and really tell the story".
Nicole-ANTM-2009-Cycle-13.cfm' style='font-weight:bold'>Nicole's story was about awkwardness, determination and transformation. Since we all know that she cannot dance AT ALL we won't even torture ourselves with trying to describe it. On the other hand, J. Alexander is impersonation of Nicole was flawlessly funny.
And the young lady who gets to come back to this tropical paradise instead the four seasons is Laura. Laura chooses Jennifer to return to the island with her. Erin was less than invigorating by the outcome.
Tyra Mail 2:
"Is the pressure making you feel like you want to explode? Not so fast... timing is everything. Love, Tyra".
Elimination Challenge:
America's Next Top Model's photo shoot creative director Jay Manuel meets the girls at the next beach and let them know that they will be styled after the volcano goddess Pele who is known for both her beauty and her fiery temperament. The models are instructed to focus on these details as well as incorporate timing of the environment into this photo shoot which will result in not one but two of them going home.
Esquire, Vogue and Marie Claire editorial photographer Steve Shaw will be doing the photography honors. In this shoot they let the girls take their own lead (again, part of the challenge is to time that environment and get your pose in sync with the way even the wind etc.)
Jennifer was a little awkward and unbalanced areas Nicole now they "campaign worthy" photo shoot in the words of Jay Manuel. Laura was scared to death of being eliminated and it was showing in her face. (Remember fans, desperation is not attractive). Erin started off hard and started singing pop songs to herself of "the kind that those teenage girls listen to" which worked to soften her expression. Erin never ceases to amaze me with the things that she finds to critique. Nonetheless the pop songs were enough to help her produce a winning performance for Jay Manuel and Steve Shaw.
Panel:
Tyra greets the girls and informs them that the remaining two will compete in a Julia Clancy fashion show right there in Hawaii.
Ann Shoket, the editor-in-chief of Seventeen magazine joins the panel for this crucial judgment.
Panel felt that Erin's shot was gorgeous, but it was more of an accident than anything else; for the most part her film presented a "sleepy" seeming model. It seems she forgot to Smize.
Jennifer's photo was beautiful and her skin was glowing but panel wasn't loving it. In the tradition of all of the great Philadelphia fighters Jennifer decided to critique the choice of that photo versus the others. It looked like it was going to get awkward for Ann Shoket but Tyra stepped in to give some encouraging words and some further explanation on why she didn't use shots from the earlier part of the fi
