American Idol Season 10, Public Voting Week 9 Results Show
Top 6 Results - The Songs of Carole King

Pre-Cap:
Continuing a slow week, the intro is all about... nothing. Ryan still manages to be over zelous, however. I think he needs to slow down on the catnip.
Jennifer covers the legs with a full length red dress. It shows off her ample assets. Steven Tyler is feeling loosely country in black hat and sombrero style white shirt. Randy is back in his civilian clothes (by by Harry Potter).

Steve Tyler has mad the cover of 2 magazines this week. Apparently (accourding to Ryan) he has officially gone from Bad Boy to America's Sweetheart. Yet, he is still not "The Most Beautiful In The World". (if you missed that reference, here is the 3 word synopsis: People crowned J-lo).

Apparently, the idols were flown to England this week to get some camera time on the topic of the upcoming Royal Wedding. Yes, American Idols at the Royal Wedding. Now all we need is Reality TV Bloggers at the royal wedding. Oh, wait...

And now the final 6 doing the Carole King medley. Since this is a competition show, let's just say Jacob Lusk sounded best, Haley Reinhart sounded worst, the harmonizing by Haley and Lauren Alaina was pleasing, but when they went solo - not so much. The producers (Nigel I guess) tried to over-hype Scotty McCreery McCreary's loverboy appeal; and the camera stayed too long showing him scrambling to extricate himself from the bevy of girls in order to make his next mark.

Overall, the performance did NOT make me long for the Live Tour (tickets on sale May 13th, 2011).

Voting Results

Oh, no, wait - time for the Ford Music Video. I was wondering where that was this week. Must have had my days confused. :-)

Guest Performance:

Crystal Bowersox performs her single "Riding With The Radio". Her attire and that of the band says Crystal Bowersox, but the song is way more up-tempo than anything she sang comfortably during Season 9. I guess her transformation for the mass market is complete. Since we all obviously liked her enough to put her in the top 2 last year, this editor continues to wish her the best in her career. Good to see her back and getting it going.

Voting Results - for real this time

RealityTVMatrix User's Choice:
James Durbin with 41 percent of the vote.
This week, our visitors threw their support behind James, with 41 percent of the PC Desktop Voting Software and iPhone Automated Dialer (RealityTVSidekick) vote. This vote MUST have been based on sympathy and hope considering last nights performance: we'll see if it helps.

Random Order Callouts:
This week, Ryan decides to call the contestants in random order, with no relevance to the percentage of votes. Admittedly, it sounded more different (than the usual random calling order) when HE said it.

1st girl called: Haley Reinhart (Beautiful) - who nailed it last night pulling references to Boxing with God, Beautiful[ness] and an undefined nature to her performances. SAFE.

1st guy called:Scotty McCreery McCreary (You've got a Friend) - Flawless in the beginning, with beautiful storytelling that was never sang better. Status: Put On Hold...

2nd girl called:Lauren Alaina (Where You Lead) - Had a voice-cracking push forward into a higher level of performance - at least according to the judges. Status: Put On Hold

2nd guy called:Casey James (Hi De Ho) - Different and entertaining, working the stage well, great musicianship with an unnecessarily too frequent growl. Status: Put On Hold.

3rd guy called:James Durbin (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow) - The first song Steven "ever made out to a girl with", that "proved [James] is a great SINGER" that "has had a strong week every single week". SAFE.

4th guy called:Jacob Lusk (Oh No, Not My Baby) - A "shake your tailfeathers" performance from a "great singer" that "brings everyone home at the end" and "nailed it" with a flawed performance that was made flawed by the HORRIBLE choice of attire. Status: Bottom 3! - because Lauren is SAFE!

The Bottom 3:

Casey Abrams (too growly, no melody)
Jacob Lusk (HORRIBLE wardrobe choice - could NOT be taken seriously - EVER AGAIN)
Scotty McCreary (because, oh, why not? But more probably, over-exposure)

Guest Performance 2:

Bruno Mars performing, well, something (hey, I'm the Editor, not the research assistant, eh?).
Let's just say, he didn't drop a grenade on us with this performance - in either a good way or a bad way. A quick poll of his fans (OK, my wife) indicates that she would rather sleep than listen. In Bruno's defense, it was a long day.) Meanwhile, Bruno started with Blackout shades on, cutting his audience connection down to zero from the very beginning, so I can't blame her.

Who Got Eliminated?:

Not Jacob! Jacob Lusk is SAFE. Take a seat.
And leaving us (Who got eliminated from American Idol Season 10 Top 6?) is... Casey Abrams.
Which confuses the heck out of me - because Ryan promised potentially upsetting results. OK, so he was a 10 on the originality and personality charts, and the judges absolutely loved him (after all, they saved him); but, some of those song choices DESERVED those ongoing placements in the bottom 3, eh?

Meanwhile, Jennifer cried, Casey ignored ALL protocols (again, originality) and kissed his way through the song while he made his way through the judges the audience, and (since my DVR cut it off) as best as I can guess, the parking lot. We'll miss him, but at least we'll have him for the AI Season 10 Live Tour. :-)
I love plugging that.

Next week:
Another contestant goes home. But not
